ORIGIN STORY
Founded in 2015 and officially launched in 2018, Flower Bodega was created by Aurea Sanabria Molaei.
Born to Puerto Rican parents, Aurea is a Bronx native who worked in the event industry for over a decade. It was in this work that she found a passion for floral styling. Through this multi sensory medium, Aurea creates floral-based content and experiences inspired by fine art, cinema, music and furniture design with an emphasis on shape, texture, scent, and sound.
WHY FLOWER BODEGA?
Aurea's father worked as a florist’s apprentice in the 1970's, learning cleaning and flower care techniques in his late teens. During her early childhood years, Aurea would spend her days running around her family’s Bronx corner bodega where she learned to appreciate the charm of these neighborhood fixtures.
Throughout her teen years and while also playing hostess at home (#adulting), she would often experiment with local bodega flowers to create beautiful, colorful designs.
What better way to pay homage to her family’s history, than naming her brand after these New York City staples?
